Metrik

Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH)

I served as the lead designer for the Massachusetts Department of Health’s data and workflow solution Metrik. As lead designer, I ensured that the branding reflected the platform’s goal of making data more accessible, actionable, and integrated for public health professionals.

  • I drafted and iterated on initial logo and branding concepts based on design scan findings, and developed the final branding guidelines and logo — including the 33-page Branding Guidelines document.
  • I developed accompanying branded materials, such as 15 persona designs for possible METRIK users.

This design direction embraces a “less is more” philosophy. A color palette centered on Bay Blue, keeps the focus on content and data, with supporting colors providing flexibility. Clean sans-serif fonts—Roboto and Open Sans— ensure readability, while single-color line icons support a clear, intuitive UI.

The gradient options add a hint of color, evoking both a heat map and the broad range of insights METRIK offers. It also reflects METRIK’s core mission: supporting diverse communities and equity.

The photography style is grounded in public health themes, featuring real people in relatable, real-world contexts. Subjects are shown with neutral or blurred backgrounds to maintain focus, and a diverse range of individuals reflects the target audience.
